Before you begin: some questions

What if I don't know anyone to be a witness at our wedding?

I can assist with witnesses at your wedding ceremony or elopement, just ask me.

What legal documents will we need to show you before we can get married?

BIRTH CERTIFICATE: An original certificate must be sighted by your celebrant.  If you don't have a copy you can order one from  https://www.qld.gov.au/law/births-deaths-marriages-and-divorces/birth-death-and-marriage-certificates

DIVORCE: If you have been married before, proof of divorce needs to be shown. The original needs to be sighted by the Celebrant.

DEATH CERTIFICATE: If widowed, the original death certificate needs to sighted by the Celebrant.

CHANGE OF NAME CERTIFICATE:

Legal proof of any name change to be obtained from Births, Deaths & Marriages. Original must be produced.

OFFICIAL CONSENT FOR PERSONS UNDER 18: Official consent to marry is required for any parties who are under 18 years of age.

Do I need to fill out any official paperwork before I get married?

 Yes, a Notice of Intended Marriage must be filled out and returned to your celebrant at least one month prior to the wedding date, and can be completed up to 18 months before your wedding date.

How long does the ceremony last?

A ceremony can be as long or as short as your like. From 2 minutes for a legals only and can be up to 30 minutes for a full wedding.

Can we write our own wedding vows?

Yes you can write your own wedding vows.  I have examples for you to use as a starting point.  There is specific legal wording that must be said, but after that is said, you can continue with your own personal vows.

Do you bring a PA system?

If it is required, I have a professional PA system for your ceremony and ceremony music.

What time do you arrive on the day?

I arrive approx. 1 hour to 40 minutes prior to the ceremony.

Where and when can we get married?

Anywhere, anytime, any date

​

How old must you be to get married in Australia?

One party must be at least 18 years of age, and permission must be sought if the other is under 18 but over 16.

Does Australia have legal same sex marriage? 

Same-sex marriage in Australia has been legal since 9 December 2017. Legislation to allow same-sex marriage, the Marriage Amendment (Definition and Religious Freedoms) Act 2017, passed the Australian Parliament on 7 December 2017 and received royal assent from the Governor-General the following day.

Do I need Marriage Witnesses?

You need two witnesses over the age of 18 to attend your wedding.
